👋 Hi, I'm Max Byck (MHC-LP)
WHO AM I
I have a background in finance and have traveled around the world as a consultant for eight years. In 2020, I came back home to take care of my family, who all, serendipitously, had some serious health issues pop up at the same time. Working at home and taking care of them gave me the time to reflect on how heavily my career was taking away from my humanity. So I made the choice to seek my own humanity rather than money or tech.
You could say psychology has always been a "special interest" of mine. How brains and behaviors work fascinates me. Sitting down and being able to help people through conversation feeds me.
I wanted to plan my life so that I could continue to travel the world. I went back to school to earn a second undergraduate degree, this time in psychology. Over the next two years, I studied psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy (another special interest of mine) and worked in research at both an autism childhood development lab and a sleep lab.
MY INTERESTS
I'm usually buried in a light novel, shaping a plank of walnut in my tiny woodworking corner, or playing with my twenty-pound orange tabby, Baby.
I'm a proud plant dad with a living room that doubles as a greenhouse. My special interests include chemistry, tech, psychedelic research, random animal facts, and small-space interior design.
When I'm outside, I enjoy learning from and experiencing different cultures, spending time with people in my community, and engaging in wildlife photography.
HOW I SHOW UP
I show up with steady presence and a commitment to authenticity. In session, we practice being in the here and now – respect, curiosity, and clear boundaries – while slowing down enough to feel your fucking feelings and uncover the meaning beneath them. Then, we'll explore ways to help you discover choicefulness and new responses to activating situations and reactions. We'll also take a look at the world and systems around you from a deconstructionist lens to see what in your life is best serving you.
I am queer affirming, neurodivergent-literate, and body-liberated. Clients say our work leaves them grounded and challenged. They are seen for who they are and nudged toward change that matters.
I hold an MHC-LP in New York, earned my master's at NYU, and maintain advanced training in OCD, parts work, and somatics. Credentials matter, but the real work happens in the relationship we build and the space we make for what is most alive right now.
Therapeutic Modalities
I use an integrative approach in my work. I have specific training in the following treatment modalities.
